The Mid Royal, The Origin of Baron Papillon
It all started in 2013, in Hong Kong. It was when we got fed up lacing and unlacing our fashionable sneakers that the idea of Mid Royal came to us. A model with an innovating design, conceived by a wish to save energy in our tedious, manual gestures. Ten years later, it’s still appreciated just as much.
ITS CODE NAME IS TM 180
Unique and iconic, the TM180 scratch enables your feet to slip into the shoe without effort thanks to a 180° opening. We are quite proud to see that we’re the only ones to have thought of it. But the fact that you’re so numerous to appreciate it makes us even prouder. See the video

100% confort
Leather outside and leather inside, the Mid Royal is like a glove for your feet. Coming from an Italian tannery, the inner lining made of perforated leather offers a soft, tender sensation, even when you’re barefoot. A new mounting accentuates even more the level of comfort. Within a few days the leather softens up to suit the morphology of your foot.
A style that passes all the tests
Baron Papillon is a top quality French brand. We pay special attention to the quality of our raw materials, to the modern look of the line and to the precision of details, as well as to all the final touches. All those things which enable us to associate our models with different situations in life, going from ones with which you are perfectly at ease to more formal settings.
crafted while paying attention to all the details
The butterfly
The silhouette of this insect, incarnating freedom of movement, is at the heart of the brand. Its crown finds its origin in the heraldry of the Renaissance barons and its discreet, hot engraved logo finds its origin in the French jewelry tradition. An elegant marriage of tradition and fashion.
carefully selected materials
Well made
The material is the bass of handcraft work: without beautiful materials, no beautiful product. That’s why we don’t neglect anything: the quality of the leathers used is a fair compromise between flexibility and sturdiness.
Just like the inner lining, the upper lining is made of calf leather from Italy. It will have a long life ahead of it with a beautiful patina.
eco-responsable and french
A well thought-out production
Concerned about environmental problems, we have always wanted an elegant and shrewd pair of sneakers, but which is also part of in the slow movement trend.
We adhere to the principle of "zero destruction" of those shoes which have not been sold and we continue to develop the creative processes which privilege the search for European materials which are truly respectful of the environment. At the same time, we associate ourselves with collaborative ecological projects.
Made in France
Upstream, we will work on the elaboration of the first prototypes:
- Final design and materials by our stylist Eric Gallais
- First handmade prototype made in our research department
- Validation
Then we proceed with the production stage:
- Preparation of different elements and materials: cutting leather, preparing linings, piercing a hole in the upper lining...
- Placing upper linings with exterior soles
- The latter are hot glued, then sewn
- Pampering by hand (cleaning the glue, nails and all the little impurities which may have crept in during these operations)
At last, the final preparation:
- Laces
- Position of the inner sole for a perfect fit Setting up our sneakers in specially designed boxes with a cardboard roll to avoid that they move around during transport
We know how to recycle
Right up to the very end. The vintage shoe boxes were recuperated from an old French manufacturer from the 1980s on which we were able to affix our logo.
Cleaning instruction
It is easy to clean: soap and a damp cloth (no solvents)
